The Butterfly Estates is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in downtown Fort Myers, Florida, dedicated to protecting and preserving Florida’s native butterfly species. Located at 1815 Fowler Street and affiliated with the Florida Native Butterfly Society, the facility presents itself as an educational institution rather than an entertainment venue, focusing on conservation and public learning.
The organization hand-raises butterflies from the egg through the chrysalis stage and releases emerged butterflies through a live chrysalis window display, with typical releases ranging from one to more than 40 butterflies depending on seasonal conditions. Operating hours vary by season: November through May the facility is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while June through October hours run Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The facility closes early during high heat index conditions and observes closures on Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
