Equine Veterinary & Podiatry Practice – Canopy Equine Veterinary and Podiatry

Canopy Equine Veterinary and Podiatry, known as CEVP, is located at 2747 W Highway 329 in Reddick, Florida, and provides integrated veterinary and farrier podiatry services for horses. The practice is led by Dr. Ellen Staples, DVM, CJF, TE, a 2020 graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and the country’s second female Certified Journeyman Farrier-veterinarian combination. She completed an internship at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala focused on lameness diagnosis and emergency medicine.

The clinic’s services include management of complicated foot conditions such as laminitis, white line disease, keratomas, quarter cracks, and navicular disease, along with therapeutic farriery for soft tissue injuries of the lower limb. It also offers complete lameness examinations with digital radiography and ultrasound, pre-purchase whole-horse evaluations that combine physical exams and diagnostics, vaccinations, Coggins testing, routine bloodwork and lab services, microchipping, and wellness exams. A central theme of the practice is close collaboration between veterinarians and farriers to achieve better outcomes for each patient.

Dr. Staples began farrier training in 2013 at the Kentucky Horseshoeing School, completing a year-long apprenticeship, and she worked at Virginia Tech’s College of Veterinary Medicine Hospital while maintaining her own farrier business throughout veterinary school. She gained experience with performance horses and with animals affected by the environmental challenges of North Central Florida, and she served three years on the Florida State Farrier’s Association board. The team also includes Christopher Jordan, a farrier apprentice and technician who graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Agricultural Leadership, trained at the Five Star Shoeing School, and worked across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and New York before relocating to Florida.

The practice can be reached by phone or text at (352) 234-6078 or by email at info@canopyequine.com, with emergency services available to existing clients. An online pharmacy and new client intake forms are offered through the website.
