Dog Rescue Organization – Florida Little Dog Rescue Group
Florida Little Dog Rescue Group is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to rescuing small dogs throughout Florida, with a primary focus on the Central Florida area. Operating as a fully volunteer-powered rescue, the organization reports having saved more than 5,795 dogs across 16 years. Rather than maintaining a shelter facility, it places all rescued dogs in foster homes, where volunteers provide care and evaluation before adoption.
The organization rescues dogs that are medically needy, overlooked, or facing euthanasia at local animal control facilities. Care provided includes veterinary treatment, grooming, medications, microchipping, vaccinations, and flea and heartworm prevention. While the rescue accepts dogs from across Florida, its volunteers are primarily based between Tallahassee and Tampa, with all dogs fostered in the Orlando area.
Key programs include the adoption process, an ongoing foster care network that is currently recruiting foster homes, and a Death Row Dogs initiative for animals with limited time at shelters. The organization has also participated in events such as World Pup, an LG Channels sports-style competition featuring rescue puppies. Prospective adopters must complete an application and interview process before visiting dogs, and because the rescue keeps no public facility or set hours, all interactions occur by appointment only. Adoption donations vary by dog, with recent listings showing donations around $525.
The rescue depends entirely on charitable donations and receives no government funding. The organization states that every dollar donated goes directly toward animal care, as it carries no overhead or salary costs. Current needs include foster homes and volunteers for transport, described as Freedom Rides, between Winter Haven, St. Cloud, and north Orlando.
Reachable at PO Box 702364, St. Cloud, FL 34770, by phone at 407-279-1127, or by email at littledogrescue@gmail.com, the group serves small dogs and adopters throughout Central Florida.
